Welcome To Our Site

My partner & I put this site together to share our story and raise awareness of Gay & Lesbian immigration issues. I'm a U.S. citizen and my partner was born in Venezuela. We met in 1995 while he was attending college in Upstate New York, and we spent the next few years building a life together. We did all we could to stay together in the U.S., but there are no provisions for gay and lesbians to sponsor their same sex partners for immigration purposes. Eventually we discovered that the most promising option for staying together was to immigrate to Canada. You can read all about our story and our decision to move to Canada here.

Denied A Life Together
When heterosexual Americans want to spend their lives with a partner born in another country, they simply file the appropriate paperwork and wait. Unless there are unusual circumstances, such as a criminal background, it is only a matter of time before the foreign partner is granted permanent resident status. Since gay and lesbians cannot get engaged or legally married they are denied these same fundamental human rights. There is no provision in the law that addresses this injustice. The Canadian Solution

The best option for us was to find a progressive third country with a high standard of living that would allow us to immigrate together. After some research, we learned that there were only a few choices. We eventually chose Canada, both for its proximity to my family and the economic similarities to the U.S. Read more about the immigration process by clicking here.
